HAPTIC/TACIT: IN SEARCH OF THE VERNACULAR
Oriel Myrddin Gallery, Carmarthen
Sat 28 July-Sat 13 Oct
In Search Of The Vernacular is the latest exhibition prepared by the artist collective Haptic/Tacit. The group is all about experimenting with new and existing art forms and their combination with language, but most importantly H/T is all about collaboration. For the exhibition, the artists invited a collaborator of their choice from outside the collective to work with them. United either by their artistic methods or views on relevant subjects, the artists joined forces to create exhibits exploring the meaning of ‘vernacular’ – demonstrating works that reflect their understanding of the word in its expression in both the arts and language.
One of the collaborations will be between Grant Aston, who draws from a combination of architecture and biology to create fluid sculptures filled with density and layers, and Henry Pim, whose architectural influences create more linear structures, albeit ones that still hold a biological element of change. Meanwhile, Jane Cairns, focusing on ceramic sculptures that draw on overlooked simplicities amidst our surroundings, will work with David Gates through furniture-like architectural structures. Finally, Kimberley Chandler and Mark Cousins will take on the writing aspects of the exhibition for a publication and an engaging program to widen the conversation of the exhibition.
