Fresh from the West End, hit musical Ghost is coming to Cardiff this April. Based on the Oscar-winning film, Ghost The Musical tells the story of Sam, a ghost who is trying to communicate with his girlfriend Molly from the afterlife. With the help of reluctant psychic and trickster Oda Mae, Sam tries to contact his girlfriend in order to protect her from his killer.
Ghost is an iconic movie (who hasn’t seen that scene with the pottery wheel), and captured the hearts of millions in the 90s. Boasting impressive special effects and illusions including cast members walking through solid objects, Ghost The Musical is a bold production. Directed by Tony Award-winning Matthew Warchus and adapted by Bruce Joel Rubin, the film’s screenwriter who subsequently won an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, this musical tries hard to capture the original magic of the film.
Beginning life in Manchester’s Opera House, the musical has been performed in both the West End and on Broadway. Although there have been mixed reviews from critics, the calibre of the acting and the spectacular special effects have both been pin-pointed for praise. With a host of original songs and an engaging love story, Ghost The Musical offers a new take on the iconic film without compromising the original, so if you love Ghost, this might be the musical for you.
