Rotary Club @ Clwb Ifor Bach, Cardiff
Fri 2 Dec
Rotary Club achieve their second cycle with a party celebrating two years providing excellent house music to the capital, stepping it up with a move from their normal haunt of Undertone to the more spacious dancefloor of Clwb Ifor Bach – they’ll have to take a van to the garden centre if they plan to fill the space with leafy plants, as is their normal gimmick. Anyway, they don’t need me to advise them on logistics; let’s talk music: just announced as the headliner for this landmark session is an astutely-chosen name from the Parisian dance underground, DJ Steaw.
Originally from Rennes, he’s based in Paris, at whose foremost nightspot, Rex Club, he runs regular parties. He’s a man who likes his grooves, taking strong influences from the blood-pulse funk of New York house as well as the deep shuffle of dub techno in his passionately perfect mixing, which takes him across France and the continent at large every weekend. He’s a fairly prolific producer as well, having originally been embraced by the sharp French labels Qalomota and Phonogramme, and with two or three of his own records coming out each year on his labels: straight up house on Rutilance and techno/acid stylings for new imprint Steaward. Check the ‘Tape’ mixes on DJ Steaw’s Soundcloud page for a taste of the pure, swinging house music he’s devoted his life to.
Admission: £4-£7. Info: 029 2023 2199
