Elysium Gallery, Swansea
Fri 5 Aug – Sat 3 Sept
BEEP, which stands for the Biennial Exhibition of Painting, is a large-scale contemporary international exhibition. The exhibition takes place every two years and this year’s theme is exploring notions of perception, memory and belonging grounded in a place, space or time through the medium of paint.
BEEP was conceived by artist and Elysium Gallery director Jonathan Powell out of a desire to bring a regular series of grander contemporary painting exhibitions to Wales.
The point of BEEP is to celebrate contemporary painting by bringing some of the best work around the globe to Wales. Because of the support they give to imaginative artists, awareness will be brought to painting on the whole, including traditional formats and testing new media in relation to painting.
The not-for-profit enterprise is open to all people; it’s free to enter into the exhibition with an application fee of £25 if you’re chosen as one of the exhibiting artists. The fee goes towards the prize money and the exhibition setup.
This year there will be two prizes. The main winner will receive £1000 and a solo exhibition with Ellysium Gallery, and will be chosen by two judges, both professional and respected artists and art organisers. The People’s Prize winner will receive £200 and will be chosen by the visitors to the exhibition.
