The Wales Millennium Centre will be dusting off its red carpet again this weekend to host the BAFTA Cymru Awards for its third consecutive year in the Donald Gordon Theatre. Singers Cerys Matthews and Aled Jones are teaming up to host the event, which brings together tip-top talent throughout Wales’ entertainment and broadcasting industry.
The list of nominations was unveiled at the beginning of April and altogether BBC Cymru has secured an impressive 31 nominations for productions like Torchwood, Doctor Who, Crash, Merlin and Scrum V. In the category for Best Film/Drama the spoof comedy A Bit Of Tom Jones is nominated alongside Cwcw and Ronnie a Ryan. Torchwood’s Eve Myles, who also appears in A Bit Of Tom Jones, is up for her sixth nomination for Best Actress.
BBC Cymru secured all three places in the Best Interactive category for Chwedlon Myrddin / Welsh Myths, Last Chance to See and The Sarah Jane Adventures. Brynmawr filmmaker Peter Watkins-Hughes has received a nomination for his graphic short film, Cow, about the dangers of texting on a mobile phone while driving.
An impressive showcase of the best Wales has to offer, previous guests and winners include the likes of Sir Anthony Hopkins, Catherine Zeta Jones, David Tennant, Michael Sheen, Russell T Davies, Ioan Gruffudd and Siân Phillips. Over 30 winners will take away the coveted BAFTA Cymru mask for awards in Programme, Craft and Performance categories.
Tickets are on sale to the public and cost £35 per person, including a free glass of bubbly on arrival.
