On his website, Cochrane describes himself as, “A no-nonsense comedian who specialises in funny nonsense.” Such a paradoxical description almost guarantees that this Glaswegian comedian will provide an evening of hilarious anecdotes and musings when he visits The Glee Club, Cardiff this month.
Cochrane has certainly started off on the right foot; his first show at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe was nominated in the Best Newcomer category for the Edinburgh Comedy Awards and he has since done four more shows at the venue – all of which were received favourably by the audience and critics. Like so many other up-and-coming comedians, Cochrane has appeared on Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow as well as 8 out of 10 Cats.
Despite TV appearances and the fame and fortune they could herald, Cochrane cut his teeth on the live comedy circuit and as such feels at ease on stage in front of an audience. At The Glee Club, he will be performing his critically acclaimed fringe show, unambiguously titles, Jokes. Life. And Jokes about Life.
Alun Cochrane’s lackadaisical observations are frequently injected with short and sharp one liners that that are randomly pulled from a box onstage, ensuring that audience members are never left listening to the same old shtick. Accepting that life isn’t just a whirlwind of giggles, Cochrane also touches on more sensitive topics, demonstrating that even from more delicate situations, humour can arise.
