In a summer that boasts the Olympics in Rio and the Euros in France, the Principality Stadium has something different that’s just as exhilarating, but local, to entertain yourself this July: the British FIM Speedway Grand Prix. The fifth round of the Speedway World Championship, the event has become an annual fixture for the Principality Stadium for over a decade, as it transforms its lush green grass into a dirty assault course for the riders to tackle as they strive for glory. Held in such an impressive venue, the views available to witness the spectacle will be unrivalled, with the event renowned for its success and excitement in Cardiff. Just as the Six Nations is embraced earlier in the year for rugby, the same fanfare will be evident in the stadium this summer, with rider signing sessions, a fanzone and even a word class fireworks display. The Grand Prix will also see Briton Tai Woffinden return to home soil for the first time following his Speedway World Championship win last October. His second World Title, Woffinden is a British favourite. With something for everyone, the day is both for the avid Speedway fan and family alike.

Given the event’s pedigree in Cardiff, last year was no exception as thousands watched Niels-Kristian Iversen finish triumphant at the Principality Stadium, a race that also saw Woffinden finish fourth. With American Greg Hancock boasting an impressive record in Cardiff, with three wins in ten years, he will look to put pressure on the pack as they speed through the dirt. The event looks good value for money with over 20 heats of action to witness throughout the day. Going wheel-to-wheel, rubber-to-rubber, elbow-to-elbow, it will be a thrilling exhibition of racing prowess as each rider rounds the Principality Stadium crowd in pursuit of victory.
