What’s The Story? is Radio Wales’s answer to Have I Got News For You. Now in its sixth series the show has a new host – Dan Mitchell (runner-up of ITV’s Show Me The Funny comedy talent show) and some new names to add to list of celebrities that will be mocking the headlines in the coming weeks.
The show is recorded at the BBC Club (Scrum V) in Llandaff, before a live audience who feature heavily in the banter. Before the show, Dan’s scatty witterings get the crowd of 30 warmed up for when he ‘does the hands’ (an instruction for everyone to clap and cheer and make as much noise as possible). On the panel last night were Caryl Parry Jones, comedians Frank Honeybone and Benjamin Partridge plus Tom Price (Torchwood‘s PC Andy Davidson who pinched my son’s energy drink and made it the butt of several gags).
The humour came with a disclaimer and was irreverent and sometimes tasteless (can you really joke about a cruise ship disaster?). The audience were rocking in their seats – quite literally as the club has all the charm of an old Welsh pub with spit, sawdust, real ale and wobbly legs.
For anyone at a loose end who fancies a pint and a laugh, joining Dan and co at the club is well worth the effort, and you may get to hear yourself on the radio, too. Recordings take place Thursdays 7pm-9pm and you can hear the broadcast every Friday at 7pm on BBC Radio Wales or anytime after online. The show is suitable for adults and children over twelve and audience tickets free and available on the door. To guarantee entry email [email protected].
