King Street Gallery, Carmarthen
Until Thurs 31 Jan
This festive season, the King Street Gallery plays host to work by a group of 25 artists, with spotlights on Elaine Graham, a Canadian-born landscape painter, and Jonathan Cox, a ceramicist. Upon moving to Wales in 2000, Graham was struck by the raw energy and beauty of the south-west coast, and began to use her painting to depict the land and seascapes of her new home. This exhibition will include a variety of coastal, countryside and woodland depictions in her signature contemporary style. Graham will also be hosting a ‘Meet the Artist’ reception in the King Street Gallery on Sat 1 Dec.
Cox started out with a small kitchen kiln in his Stoke home, where he learned the difficult skill of tube-lining, which involves squeezing a thin line of clay through a nozzle to create intricate designs. More recently he has developed a collection of lusterware, which have been described as “paintings in ceramic form”. Examples of his plates, bowls, vases and wall-hangings in this style will be showcased at the exhibition, with designs inspired by the romantic scenery of the Welsh countryside.
In the front window of the Gallery will be some ‘Small Gems’ by other artists, all available for under £100.
