Flours
Chapter Arts Centre, Cardiff
Wed 18-Sat 21 July
Missing out or escaping? Two women who run a bakery are constantly reminded of the important milestones in a women’s life, baking for weddings, christenings and the occasional hen-do special masterpiece.
A loving sequel to 2017’s Flowers, Flours hopes to be a fabulously hilarious rendition exploring the themes of expectation, compassion, judgement and the struggle of running bakeries – it does sound really hard, actually. Presented by Big Loop Theatre Company, directed by Duncan Hallis and written and performed by the talented duo Allie Downing and Kitty Hughes, Flours will no doubt leave audiences cackling out loud, whilst feeling all warm and fuzzy on the inside. With the one-hour piece showcasing original theatre, gameplay and live music, the play also features a ‘cool’ bit with a rolling pin – now who said kitchen utensils can’t be entertaining?
Containing a little dusting of cheeky language, saucy themes, menstruation and most importantly, food, Flours should follow the footsteps of Buzz’s five-star rating of Flowers last year, set to be a heartbreaking, emotional story whilst still providing a doughful of fantastic live talent. A sure sign of success will be if they can bake enough puns to rival The Great British Bake-Off.
