Dir: Toa Fraser (15, 94 mins)
Former Billy Elliott Jamie Bell is the unlikely SAS leader Rusty Firmin in this dramatisation of the Iranian Embassy hostage drama of April 1980. Already cheekily brought to life by Lewis Collins in the classic 1982 film Who Dares Wins, 6 Days offers a more reasonable and rounded account of the siege. Ever reliable Mark Strong also stars as Mark Vernon the Met Police Inspector who tried to negotiate with the Iranian Arab group who stormed the embassy. Abbie Cornish adds some plum to her voice for BBC reporter Kate Adie as she attempts to explain the events as they unfold. Ramping up the tension despite the outcome being known is a major achievement by director Fraser in this competently staged drama. The cast are solid and the script engages with the concept that sometimes might may have to be right, no matter the cost.
