5 PLACES TO NURSE A FOODY’S HANGOVER | FOOD FEATURE
‘Tis the season to be jolly, and Christmas parties and an almost offensive level of brandy, mulled wine, hot toddies and champagne have likely rendered a good amount of the population merry. Chelsea Brownhill kindly looks into the best places to help after a not so silent night.
CAFE 37
Café 37 is like a mother’s hug to hangovers. With its retro style, boasting the best breakfast in Wales and the ‘hangover cure’ Oreo Milkshake, this café will certainly brighten your morning.
Café 37, 37 Salisbury Road, Cardiff. Info: 02920641137
RAMONES
Recently renovated with a swanky new look, and is just as cheap and welcoming as Café 37. The only difference between these hangover doctors is the fried potatoes you get with Ramones breakfast. The deciding factor is really how highly you rate your potatoes.
Ramones, 64 Salisbury Road, Cardff. Info: 02920390391
PURE KITCHEN
If you aren’t into eating 1,000 calories + in your first meal of the day, then Pure Kitchen is calling you. Their ‘Pure Café breakfast’ is like a traditional fry up, but with poached egg and some well-needed veggies. Let’s be honest, your body is probably crying for healthy after punishing it with all that alcohol (tut tut).
Pure Kitchen, The Flourish, Lloyd George Avenue, Cardiff. Info: 029 2049 3348 / www.cafepure.co.uk
BILL’S
Bill’s just do everything right. Their vegetarian (don’t recoil) breakfast is renowned for being one of the best in Cardiff. If you truly cannot handle meat-free, then you can also have a standard Bill’s breakfast with some sizzling streaky bacon and sausages.
Bill’s, 27-39 Wyndham Arcade, Mill Lane. Info: 029 20231524/ www.bills-website.co.uk
COSY CLUB
Better known for its evening meals and cocktails, Cosy Club also provides a helping hand with your hangover. Their slightly fancier brunch is the ‘Cosy Eggs’ served with your choice of bacon, spinach, chorizo or smoked salmon. Perfect if you’re not so far gone you can’t even stomach being near somewhere that serves alcohol.
Cosy Club, St David’s Dewi Sant, Cardiff, 1 Hills Street. Info: 029 2022 5998/ www.cosyclub.co.uk
