Coming to Cardiff later this year, the Festival of Voice will be showcasing local talent as well as international and global stars.
To cheer us up from the city’s cultural budget cuts, the summer festival will be bringing you music for a 10 day and night period from the 3rd – 12th June, filling 12 venues across Cardiff and believe us, it’s going to be big.
The event organisers at WMC, said: “Taking place at venues all over Cardiff in June, Festival of Voice will fill the city with music from all genres and the land of song on the world stage.” They also hope the festival will fill a gap in Wales’ cultural offerings.
The dozen different venues include the newly opened Tramshed in Grangetown, New Theatre on Park Place, Llandaff Cathedral, Canton’s Chapter Arts Centre, St. David’s Hall and the Wales Millennium Centre.
Wales Millennium Centre who have created the celebratory Festival of Voice have already released some of the big names set to play include American singer/song writer, Ben Folds, popular fado singer, Mariza, French icon, Juliet Greco, Van Morrison, Nigerian musician Femi Kuti, South African Hugh Masekela, and US solo artist, John Grant.
Also playing is the multi-talented Rufus Wainwright, who is returning to the city following his sell out performance in 2007.
Inspiring performances, UK exclusives, sound sculptures and education projects are anticipated on stage at the festival which is supported by Arts Council of Wales, Colwinston Charitable Trust and Cardiff Council.
Organisers for the festival say that it’s going to be biennial due to needing a gap to plan the next event to bring you the best in the business.
The full line up can be seen on the Festival of Voice website.
