Theatr Brycheiniog, Brecon
Wed 23-Fri 25 Aug
Many may already be familiar with the heroic Zulu leader, King Cetshwayo, who memorably led the Zulu nation to victory against the British in the Battle Of Isandlwana. Regardless of prior knowledge, King Cetshwayo: The Musical is sure to entertain audiences everywhere. Merging elements of theatre, film and traditional Zulu and Shembe dance movements, the UK premiere comes to Theatr Brycheiniog this August. The performance promises to be visually and aurally exciting, featuring over 20 artists, as well as live musicians, from South Africa.
Focusing on the events of the Zulu’s rebellion against the English and Welsh Regiments during the period of the Anglo Zulu Wars, and the subsequent victories that helped to galvanise the re-emerging pride of a nation, the musical sets out to illuminate the events that have since become part of South Africa’s national history and heritage. Using a range of forms, the musical utilises multimedia, song, dance, dialogue and storytelling to engage and inspire the audience. Notably, the musical features performances from the Zulu Royal Family, as well as descendants of King Cetshwayo, highlighting both the importance of the story, as well as its quality.
Alongside the performance, events, talks and exhibitions will be happening across Brecon during this unforgettable Zulu visit, helping to educate and further involve potential audiences.
