Pop up supper clubs have become a popular activity with foodie fans in Wales of late and Alex’s Supper Club certainly is a delicious way to spend an evening. Raymond Blanc trained chef Alex Louise hosts ‘Alex Cooks the Box’ in partnership with award-winning organic delivery company Riverford Organic to give you a cookery demonstration using all the items from the current week’s Riverford Vegetable & Meat combo box. There’s an intimate feel to the evening as the group sizes are kept small and friendly Riverford Organics representatives hand out prosecco as you mingle with guests.
The demonstration has a Saturday Kitchen-esque feel to it as chef Alex confidently and engagingly talks the assembled group through ingredients, prepping and cooking techniques. It’s an impressive feat to demonstrate six different dishes in an evening including vegetable soup, broccoli, chilli flakes and lemon salad, mushroom risotto, green salad with peppers, glazed ham with sweet potato mash and apple tart tartan with double cream. Alex’s expert multi tasking preparation and timing is quite something. She talks through every action in the kitchen while also exuding an infectious passion for food, produce and flavours. Questions are encouraged throughout the evening and it’s great to have a whole group dialogue about recipes, food preferences and recommendations. Of course the best part of the evening is getting to sample each fantastic and flavoursome dish crafted in front of your very eyes. The array of flavours from the dishes is incredible and you can clearly taste the quality of the produce that has been used in every course. It’s a relaxed and enjoyable evening shared with people who are passionate about good food and good produce. Alex’s Supper Club is a perfect way of learning expert cooking skills presented in a straight forward manner, ensuring that aspiring chefs can take away chef secrets so they can dazzle future dinner guests.
