Got Bass @ The Vaults, Cardiff Bay
Sat 28 Oct
Much imitated but rarely bettered, DJ Q is responsible for some of the cheekiest basslines known to humanity. As a leading light in the northern strain of garage, bassline, which grew out of Sheffield in the mid-noughties, Q was 1Xtra’s youngest resident when he joined the station in 2004, and at just 32 has already achieved veteran status.
This isn’t his first visit to Cardiff (he played Buffalo back in 2015), but it does mark something of a milestone in as much that it’s the first appearance at the Vaults for local low-end enthusiasts Got Bass, last spotted welcoming Midlands DJ Bassboy to Clwb in September. The Vaults is known to get sweaty at the best of times, so lord knows what scenes will unfold when Q gets on the controls. Incidentally, his visit coincides with the showdown at the Principality Stadium between Anthony Joshua and Kubrat Pulev, and it’s hard to tell which will pack more punch (ahem).
Joining Q at the vaults are Bristoian crew Buckfast Boys Club, who are as partial to an improper bassline as they are fortified tonic wine, while local lads Styx, Kocept and Chez are also on hand to keep the party jumping and the low end flowing. Brace yourselves – this one’s going to get lairy.
