Jah Wobble
May 4 @ 19:30 - 23:00
£24.00Jah Wobble’s most recent solo album The Bus Routes Of South London was written and partly recorded on the bus routes of south London, with the musician – whose work in Public Image Ltd makes him one of the most influential bassists of the 1970s and 80s – composing dubby ambient instrumentals on an iPad while transported around his home turf. It’s the simple, if idiosyncratic, life for the 65-year-old christened John Wardle, though he’s still touring his two most noteworthy projects: fronting Invaders Of The Heart, a name he’s used since 1983, and performing live versions of PiL’s iconic Metal Box album with extra dub power. His spring tour of the UK features both these shows: of the three Wales dates, attendees of the Bethesda stop will get the Metal Box set, while in Cardiff (which is sold out) and Buckley Wobble is in Invaders mode (although I think it’s the same band playing both). Either way, expect large groovy basslines and affable bonhomie from one of postpunk’s most crucial nodes. words NOEL GARDNER
