Sunday July 31st
Glee Club Cardiff
Sunday saw the talented Jethro Bradley crowned as the winner of the Wales Unsigned Stand Up Awards, which took place at Cardiff’s Glee Club; a worthy winner among a range of very talented peers.
Jethro stood out with his natural comedic timing. His one liners are so quick a moment is given after each for the audience to catch up. An under enthusiastic persona paired with over animated eyes add to his awkward yet commanding presence.
Speaking with Jethro after the show he seemed calm and collected, not sure if he was just being humble or it hadn’t quite sunk in yet.
Off-stage he is a seemingly quiet man, focused and determined as he spoke of his career goals of eventually having his own tour or chat show.
The night wasn’t Jethro’s alone; he shared the stage with five other worthy competitors. Luke Catterson opened the show a fresh and topical comedian, followed by the nervously funny Sarah Breese. Eirlys Evans treated us to her comedy persona Karen Sherarrd, a cheeky nan from Nant-y-Moel who uses pantomime style audience participation. Jeff Japers treated us to a visual and musical experience followed by a pop quiz and last but not least was Steffan Evans hard to believe he is only in his first year of comedy he uses his Welshness to his full advantage, a Rhod Gilbert in the making.
A side splitting night of comedy, the WUSA’s really are a testament to the talent breeding inthe Welsh comedy circuit at the moment.
