Whether he’s clowning it up in his signature tracksuit or helping the Welsh Government shift vaccines, this unlikely rap aficionado from the ‘Port’s Goldie Lookin’ Chain is still going strong as a founding member of the notorious Welsh rap group. But despite being active for 20-odd years now, we’re betting there are still a few things you didn’t know about Rhys Hutchings from GLC…
What’s the most recent film you’ve watched that made you cry?
Don’t really watch many sad films or TV shows! I have no idea why anyone would watch EastEnders. Come to think of it, I watched A Dog’s Way Home with the kids and I cried for like a week after that. And that film about the octopus [presumably My Octopus Teacher] was pretty hardcore. I was chopping onions to that one.
Which celebrity (alive or dead) would you be too nervous to meet?
I would be nervous to meet any celebrity that was dead, especially if they had been dead for a while. There are a few I would be happy to see dead… but I’m not sure if that was the question you were asking.
What’s the last thing you wrote in your notes app (or wherever you keep notes to yourself)?
The script for a thing I’m working on about St Woolos Cathedral in Newport. That and the plans for my secret base for when I take over the world.
Which TV show is your guiltiest pleasure?
I do enjoy watching The Camomile Lawn.
What’s the last meal you’d request on the final night of I’m A Celebrity?
They get a final meal? Surely they could have anything they want the next day. Probably some chips, you can always trust chips. They get cooked at a high enough temperature to kill anything that’s gonna give you a runny bottom. That’s the last thing you would want the next day if you are being let out.
What song would you play to an alien who’d never heard human music before?
Nocturne Opus 9 No.1 in B flat minor by Freddy Chopin… or TNT by AC/DC.
What was the last outfit you wore that made you feel great?
If a tracksuit is an outfit, then most weekends and occasionally on a Tuesday.
If you could go back in time, which decade would you choose and why?
I think we are at the peak of human existence right now, it’s all downhill from here. If we’re stuck in this century I would go back to the 90s and see DJ Sasha at Universe 92.
What’s your pettiest pet peeve?
People who describe their taste in music as “eclectic”. In fact, people who describe anything as eclectic or even use the word eclectic for any reason.
What’s your favourite and least favourite recurring dream?
I used to have this regular dream about crossing the river that runs through Newport, the Usk, on a bridge that’s made of planks of wood and falling apart. The bridge was very high up and I was trying not to fall off, if I did I knew I was gonna drown. My least favourite is one where I’m looking out the window of my house and the outside is different, which actually happened – but that’s another story. Funny how it never rains in dreams…
