THE FREE FOYER | EVENT PREVIEW
The Free Foyer sessions at Sherman Theatre have for the last 18 months provided a great opportunity to see a whole range of both established and up and coming artists for free in the tasteful setting of the Sherman Theatre. Sweet Baboo, Richard James and Huw M are just some of the artists that have already performed at the sessions, and after a summer absence, the sessions are finally up and running again, beginning on Sat 16 Nov. The night will have a strong electronic flavour, seeing local electronic acts Conformist and Macho City perform.
Conformist is Michael Simmons, who creates and tinkers with intricate layers of sounds to create highly danceable music using samples from cable TV shows, shopping channels, and basically anything from the arse-end of television, kind of like a modern day Public Broadcasting Service. Macho City are two members of Cardiff band Truckers of Husk and are based on a thrilling mix of big bass, old synths and cassette tapes. They are described as sounding like a long-forgotten John Carpenter, and who can resist that? The line-up is going to make for an extremely exciting night, and it’s free so you don’t have any excuse. Sherman Theatre insists that advanced booking isn’t necessary, so just turn up.
