Without doubt you’ll be familiar with the group behind Cosy Club as they also own some of Cardiff’s best loved venues, including Juno Lounge, Ocho Lounge and Fino Lounge. Late last year they opened The Cosy Club in the city centre, their fifth larger format restaurant.
Despite it being a cold and wet Tuesday evening in January, nearly every table was occupied with both large parties of friends and several tables of two. The location of the restaurant on the first floor meant that our table by the window overlooked the Hayes and the beautiful architecture of the David Morgan building opposite.
On a Tuesday after 5pm they run an offer of three tapas dishes and a glass of house wine for only £8.50, but we’d already spotted a couple of main dishes we fancied trying. I was intrigued by the salmon and crayfish burger (£8.95), whilst my husband liked the sound of the roasted corn-fed chicken, triple-cooked chips, and garlic sautéed buttered vegetables (£9.50). The patty of the salmon burger was delicious and surprisingly chunky in size, whilst the salad, fries and spicy lime pickle perfectly accompanied the dish. The burger bun was almost superfluous, and next time I’d probably order it without. The chicken was as flavourful as you’d imagine it to be with a lemon, thyme and garlic sauce, and once again proved to be excellent value for money.
It’s easy to see The Cosy Club doing very well: it caters for both shoppers in the day and those looking for a dinner and drinks in a relaxed and informal atmosphere, without sacrificing the quality of the food or the cost of the meal. ANGHARAD BROWN
