I have always been a fan of podcasts; from walking to the city centre, to commuting for work – they have been a great source of entertainment.
With a similar format to radio – minus the music – podcasts give the unique ability to travel from place to place listening to opinions, educational information, and comedy without losing signal!
Here are just a few of my favourite podcasts and why you should listen to them.
Hosted by three unfiltered, honest and funny women, The Receipts is a problem-page based podcast where listeners write in seeking advice on different issues. Anything from friendships, relationships and work problems are addressed in their aptly named ‘Your Receipts’ episodes, with topical episodes being released alternately every week.
As much as this podcast has been around since 2016, last year it was picked up and sponsored by Spotify which has meant the girls are able to release content more regularly.
With titles such as I’m Addicted to my Vibrator, https://soundcloud.com/thereceiptspodcast/your-receipts-i-am-addicted-to-my-vibrator Dating with Self-Harm Scars, and I had a Threesome with my Colleagues this 18+ content answers questions we never knew we had, and touches on some serious and sensitive issues whilst maintaining a high level of comedy throughout.
These ladies do not pull punches; They want their audience to think of them as straight-talking big sisters that will tell you what you don’t want, but need, to hear.
Featuring different artists and celebrities on occasion, this show often sees me crying with laughter.
The creators – Tolani Shoneye, Audrey Indome and Milena Sanchez – have curated a professionally relaxed, funny and honest podcast that everyone would enjoy.

For those of you who want to get more out of their podcast, Stuff You Should Know (SYSK) is the one for you. Hosts Josh Clark and Charles W. ‘Chuck’ Bryant explore a multitude of topics from How do dogs perceive time https://youtu.be/Sy6nTK1ILPk and How acne works filling your mind with interesting facts you can show off at your next party or when you’re down the pub.
This is one of the rare podcasts where you can pick and choose which episodes you want to listen to and in what order you fancy them.
It is available on most podcast players and I certainly suggest you check out the episode on How Cult Deprogramming Works https://people.howstuffworks.com/cult7.htm as it’s fascinating.

https://myfavoritemurder.com/This award winning podcast is hosted by Karen Kilgariff and Georgia Hardstark and is perfect for anyone with an interest in true crime. That’s How Water works is a gem https://myfavoritemurder.com/222-that-s-how-water-works/
Every week the hosts each pick a ‘favourite’ murder or mystery story to discuss on the podcast, as well as weekly minisodes where viewers write in with stories of murder from their home town.
As a true crime buff myself, I can often find tv shows or podcasts on the subject to be understandably solemn and dry, however, Karen and Georgia add a bit of their trademark comedy to this series whilst also maintaining respect for the victims.
You really do get to know the hosts quite well as they discuss their own family dynamics and past struggles with addiction and therapy; all of these factors and everything mentioned above helps to create quite a close-knit and friendly fan group which you can explore on the Facebook and Twitter pages.
This podcast is available on most platforms.
