ORIEL A&B OPENS| ART NEWS
As of October 13th, Mermaid Quay will be transformed into Oriel A&B – a vibrant world of art. For a seven week period, Arts and Business (A&B) Cymru and Mermaid Quay will be in partnership to open a pop-up art gallery within the heart of Cardiff Bay; their goal to celebrate the artistic talent within Wales. Weekly exhibitions and inspiring workshops will be available to the public, much of the art being work of students, community groups and professional artists.
Starting with work from the Waterfront Gallery in Milford Haven, the gallery will exhibit a selection of works such as that of the Rhôd Artists Group, Pippin’s Designs, Cardiff Metropolitan University School of Art & Design and Ffotogallery.
Furthermore, from Saturday 24th October to Sunday 1st November, Mermaid Quay will host the annual Drawing Water arts festival. As a part of this half-term event, Oriel A&B will present two free children’s workshops per day, starting Monday 26th and ending Friday 30th. These range from painting and crafting, to comedy, to digital movies and technology. However, places are limited so it’s best to pre-book to avoid disappointing your little one.
So it seems that Cardiff Bay is the place to be these next few weeks. Despite already boasting countless bars, restaurants and services, this artistic event will certainly add to the spirit of the location.
