“By the pricking of my thumbs, something wicked this way comes”. Following the onscreen adaptation of Michael Fassbender as the King Of Scotland, Macbeth arrives in Cardiff on stage. Shakespeare’s shortest tragedy, the play chronicles the conflicts of Macbeth, both on the battlefield and mentally, as he is consumed by the allure of power and notability. Shepherded by his wife, Macbeth’s transformation from Thane to King examines the physical and internal influences of war, murder and guilt, as he slowly spiral into madness.
Showcased in Chapter Arts Centre, the production will be presented by the Richard Burton Company. Featuring both undergraduates who have spent two years developing their skills and seasoned postgraduates from the Royal Welsh College, these students join the Company to exhibit their talents in public performances. Not only for entertainment, these shows will act as a platform for its aspiring actors and actresses. With the Richard Burton Company staging 15 productions ever year, the success of their upcoming show seems assured.
Under the direction of Caroline Byrne, who is also overlooking rehearsals for the acclaimed Fuck The Polar Bears at the Bush theatre, her expertise in Shakespeare will do justice to the intense domestic dynamic of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth.
