HOTEL ARTEMIS ***
Dir: Drew Pearce (15, 100 mins)
An offbeat sci-fi crime thriller with a hint of The Raid and John Wick, this has Jodie Foster playing the head of a special hotel that doubles as a hospital for injured criminals. She is The Nurse in a future LA overridden with lawless rioting. She has run her place for years with the help of her hulking assistant played by Dave Bautista. They have rules. No one is allowed to kill anybody in their place. Matters take a turn for the worst however, when a hated crimelord is admitted that everyone wants to kill. Amongst the patients are Sterling K Brown’s bankrobber, Sofia Boutella’s athletic assassin who can kill someone with whatever is to hand, Charlie Day’s dodgy arms dealer and a as standard off-kilter Jeff Goldblum. It’s good to see Jodie Foster having fun in a blackly comic, action-packed film full of nods to the likes of Assault On Precinct 13. Opens July 20
