It’s a show that the guys at The Moon Club have “dreamed about getting in here” and sure enough, the New Orleans-based Hot 8 Brass Band will be making an appearance. Expect a foot-tapping, rhythmic, fun, funky sound that blends classic New Orleans sounds with hip-hop, jazz and funk which is bound to get you dancing all the way home; don’t blame us If you don’t want to go to sleep!
Formed in 1995, the band has a loyal set of worldwide followers and attracts new fans at every gig with their bold, original sounds and catchy, unique covers such as the incredible take on Marvin Gaye’s Sexual Healing. Their 2012 album The Life And Times Of… propelled The Hot 8 Brass Band to further prominence with sharp lyrical commentary on their hometown, including the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and the deaths of late band members. They recorded a special Maida Vale session for the BBC’s Gilles Peterson which included tracks from The Life And Times Of… such as the incomparable interpretation of The Specials’ Ghost Town with a deep, growling seductive riff and relentless drums.
Be sure to arrive in time to catch their support act, Cardiff-based saxophone-and-drum trio Iron Eye. Fusing jazz and dance music, they will be sure to warm you up nicely. Comfortable shoes are essential (you’ll be doing a lot of dancing).Tickets: £12.50. Info: www.thefullmooncardiff.com
