Elysium, Swansea
Until Sat 1 July
Now in its fourth year, the ESPY photography award hopes to discover new and exciting photography both in Swansea and from the international stage. The open competition invites professional, amateur and student photographers to enter a piece that that shows their best work with the prize being the opportunity to showcase their art in and around Swansea in a city-wide exhibition.
For the first time, the competition does not have a theme, which organisers hope will give artists more space to experiment, both with the modern photography medium as well as exploring more traditional forms of photography.
The award is the brainchild of Daniel Staveley, a photographer and lecturer who founded the not-for-profit organisation alongside Elysium gallery to help promote work created in both Swansea and around the world. The award’s prestige has now grown to have a large following and this year, it has received more entries than ever before.
Luckily, the award has been provided with extra exhibition space to showcase more photographers and include, for the first time, self-published books which could also be entered. The exhibition in the Elysium gallery, Round Reading Room and the Grand Theatre will include the top three photographers, and the winner of the award. A further 40 artists will be exhibited in the Grand Theatre Gallery in Swansea city centre.
Entry: £20 per photographer. Info: 079 8092 5449 / www.elysiumgallery.com
