After a refurbishment at the end of last year, the Duke Of Wellington has found its feet. Located in the picturesque village of Cowbridge, the Duke compliments the vast number of above average eateries and tea rooms in the area, by bringing pub grub to the fore in a traditional and inexpensive way. With so many well established eateries in Cowbridge, it makes sense to stick with traditional fare, and as such the menu changes regularly and all food is supplied locally by Welsh businesses and suppliers.
On our visit, we had a meat antipasto board to start followed by a pork loin chop in sticky cider sauce with green beans and sage mash and Welsh faggots wrapped in bacon, garden peas and mash. This was complemented by a delightful bottle of Campo Viejo Crianza. The menu doesn’t try to be clever in its approach, and is instead simply prepared without any fuss or faff. For dessert we shared a sticky toffee and walnut pudding with vanilla ice cream. At £44.00 for two, the evening was pleasurable, and with friendly staff, a great location, and an affordable price tag, the Duke is the ideal stop off for an evening meal when you can’t be bothered to cook at home.
