Originality is often hard to come by, but at Double Super Happy, its inventive cocktail selection, tempting pan-Asian dim sum and Tokyo-style décor offers a truly unique drinking and dining experience.
Proving an exciting place of discovery, Double Super Happy’s intriguing menu bounces between Vietnamese, Japanese, Chinese and Thai cuisine. Lending itself to a social and interactive dining experience, all dishes can be ordered throughout the evening, and in between, there’s always the range of deliciously inventive cocktails to tackle.
We opted for around 10 dishes between three of us, with each dish coming in between £4 and £6. Much of the menu is inspired and driven by a pan-Asian street food tradition, and as such, the food arrived quickly. Among the many dishes we enjoyed, the chicken rolls with bamboo shoots and soy sauce, lotus leaf-wrapped sticky rice with Chinese sausage and smoked pork, Thai red curry corn fritters and chargrilled chicken satay all went down exceedingly well. The whole deep fried soft-shell crab was a flavoursome experience for the less squeamish, and the Vietnamese garlic and pepper pork balls soon disappeared. Each dish was beautifully flavoured with fresh (and to my palate, unusual) flavours.
Entirely original dishes were complemented by more familiar flavours and as the menu continues to grow with new dishes continually being added, it’s great to see such an enthusiastically experimental menu bringing a whole host of new flavours to diners’ plates. With so much to try, we rapidly demolished everything brought to our table, and with each dish providing something totally new to discover, there was plenty to talk about, and even more reason to return.
