DOOMED FROM DAY ONE + GRIEVER + SET TO BREAK | LIVE REVIEW
The Parrot, Carmarthen, Fri 15 Nov
Before The End Promotions continue to make a habit of excelling in their exhibitions, as Doomed From Day One headline yet another night of chaos at The Parrot in Carmarthen. Openers, Bridgend five-piece Set To Break, unleash an unrelenting set of hard-hitting anthems, which despite hinting at promise, ultimately blend into a slightly predictable showcase of brutish metalcore.
However, lengthy travellers Griever, who have journeyed from Bournemouth for tonight’s performance, take no time at all to introduce themselves. Opening with the sheer brutality of Destroyer, their set never ceases to stun an intimate crowd, through David Seymour’s bellowing vocal attack, alongside the ever-so-tight instrumentals of the men behind him. After smashing endless soaring melodies and punishing breakdowns, Griever distinguish themselves. Their upcoming EP Rebirthing eagerly awaits our ears, as latest single My Captain, My King concludes an outstanding performance.
Tonight’s headliners Doomed From Day One thankfully always relish a performance, even when their audience offers little. Despite an average turnout, with little enthusiasm amongst the crowd this progressive deathcore outfit from Guildford demonstrate why their presence in the UK metal scene is well documented. Extremely tight instrumental chaos brushes with the forceful rage of Sean Scott’s vocal efforts, as well as the tarantula like fingers of exceptional bassist, Eifion Sweet, to excite the minds of an insightful crowd, who continue to express their love for this band’s offerings throughout.
After delivering unforgiving devastation, to unearthing heartfelt melodies, this band reach a different level of connection as an outfit. Expect exciting prospects for one of the brightest talents in the UK metal scene: Doomed From Day One are rightfully favourites in the hearts of all who experience their stunning quality.
