Pink is in abundance at the Park & Dare Theatre in Treorchy as Theatremask production and its leading ladies step into the Jimmy Choos of Californian sorority girl, turned lawyer, Elle Woods.
Legally Blonde The Musical will take you from the Barbie-esque sorority house to the halls of justice with musical theatre land’s brightest new heroine (and, of course, her chihuahua, Bruiser).
Based on the adored 2001 film starring Reese Witherspoon, Legally Blonde The Musical stays true to form with a peppy score and playful book; equal parts hilarious and heart-warming, this musical is so much fun, it should be illegal!
The stage opens on a gaggle of sorority sisters desperate to know if their Delta Nu president has been proposed to by her very own Ken doll, Warner. As it turns out, he hasn’t popped the question. Determined to win back her man, Elle uses her charm to follow him to Ivy-League School, Harvard Law.
Our Malibu girl determines to do Harvard her way, always picking herself up after being knocked down by all around her. With the help of her bumbling beautician Paulette and love-interest Emmett, what unfolds is a path of self-discovery for Elle Woods, who finds out there is more under that layer of pink than even she thought.
The score is treble-laden pop with its fair share of filler, but nimbly flexes from R&B balladry to Riverdance pastiche. The Delta Nus excitable opening number OMIGod You Guys through to the rib-tickling Gay or European and poignant title track Legally Blonde will keep you hooked, beyond a reasonable doubt.
Legally Blonde The Musical is a three time Olivier Award winner, and wherever it plays, the story of Elle and her journey from pink princess to legal eagle delivers a feel-good fluffiness for all the family to enjoy.
