Sherman Theatre, Cardiff
Until Sat 31 Dec
Christmas at the Sherman is always a magical time, and once again they return with two Christmas offerings, one for younger audiences and one for families.
For younger audiences, this year is The Emperor’s New Clothes / Dillad Newydd yr Ymerawdwr in conjunction with Theatr Iolo. Made especially for 3-6 year olds and their family and performed in either Welsh or English, it’s the perfect Christmas outing for little ones. Directed by Kevin Lewis, written by award winning playwright Alun Saunders, and in this version when the Emperor demands the coolest clothes to help him be, well, ‘cool’, the call is answered by a pair of wily weavers, who concoct a cunning plan and land everyone in an embarrassing situation. Who will help the Emperor rediscover his joy and silliness?
For slightly older audiences, the Sherman takes you on another musical family adventure with The Borrowers. Following on from the success of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe in 2015, this year another family classic will be brought to life. Adapted by Mary Norton, audiences will be able to discover the secret world of Pod, Homily and Arrietty, whose lives are turned upside down by a dangerous encounter ‘above the floorboards’.
With songs and live music in both shows there’s something here for the whole family this Christmas!
