AMERICAN INTERIOR | COMPETITION
Gruff Rhys is not a man that idly sits and watches the world go by. The dynamic musician, who rose to fame with Super Furry Animals during the nineties, boasts an impressive resume of collaborations with an array of acts including Mogwai and Gorillaz. Now he is back with a four pronged attack with his latest project American Interior.
American Interior comes in the form of a film, book, and album, as well as an app for good measure, which tells the story of his latest investigative tour across the Midwest of America. His journey aimed to mirror that of a distant relative, John Evans, who embarked for the New World over two centuries ago. Whereas John’s was a quest for glory searching for a lost tribe of Welsh-speaking Native Americans, Gruff’s was an exploration of how wild fantasies interact with history and how myth can inspire people to pursue crazy and vain ventures.
The film of his journey, directed by Dylan Goch who has worked with the musician on his previous investigative tour, will be in cinemas this May. For an early look Chapter will also be showing an advanced preview of the film, as well as a Q&A with Gruff and the crew, on Wed 30 April at 6pm.
