Emma R. Alban’s You’re The Problem, It’s You is a much-anticipated second part of a duology loosely inspired by Taylor Swift lyrics – following up Don’t Want You Like A Best Friend, published at the start of this year. A historical romance fiction, set in the late 19th century, the focus of You’re The Problem… is on two men: Bobby Mason, a spare to the heir and fully aware of the injustices this brings, and James Demeroven, a brand new viscount unsure of himself and his position.
The men have crossed paths in the past, though, only one of them harboured an intense reaction to the other. Both Bobby and James begin a classic will-they-won’t-they chase, where bubbling anger is at first resolved with frequent arguments and storming off… but soon enough with passion and excitement.
You’re The Problem, It’s You is a gorgeous romance, faultlessly written, with just the right amount of spice – though, fair warning, it might not appeal to readers who dislike the miscommunication trope. That said, its ending is particularly well crafted and surprising, as is the epilogue. A potential hit with fans of Bridgerton, and anyone else who likes the escape and joy of imagining the past lives of queer communities.
