Fancy yourself as the next Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor? Then prove it by signing up for the Worthington’s Champion of Champions darts tournament. If not, and you’d prefer to just watch other people play and support the sport, you can still go to the finals in St David’s Hall.
Whether you see yourself as a darts expert or have never tried it before in your life, anyone can enter the competition. All you have to do is find a local pub or club that is taking part as a host venue, sign up, and play. Everyone is playing for a chance to appear in the grand final on Sat 26 Aug. You can enter in as many different qualifying tournaments in as many different pubs as you want, but once you win a tournament you’re through to the final and can’t enter again. The tournaments follow the classic News Of The World format, with the winner of the best of three legs advancing in the competition. Every participating venue will have a champion, and 256 players of all ages and abilities, both amateur and professional, will play off in front of a huge crowd to win the title of Champion Of Champions, as well as a cash prize.
Last year’s winner, Jonny Clayton from Pembrokeshire, walked away with a cheque for £5,000 after seeing off professional player Richie Burnett in the semi-finals, and this year’s prize fund is set to be even bigger. The final is an all-day event in Cardiff’s St David’s Hall, which hosts the Premier League Darts every year and promises plenty of entertainment for darts fans. Tickets are available online, as well as more information on your nearest local venue and how you can take part.
