Yee-Haw
February 13 @ 19:00 – 22:00
A Western theme-world at the top of the Rhondda Valley (true story) might be the oddest cowboy-based mashup, but with Yee-Haw the Rising Stars Theatre Company have put a Yellowstone-type twist on a Shakespeare classic.
King Lear is the play in question: here, Lear is Sheriff Lee, and daughters Goneril, Regan and Cordelia are renamed Calamity, Annie and Dolly. The ageing sheriff is getting ready to retire, and in preparation is dividing his territory between his three daughters. At this point, I sort of lose track of who’s supposed to be who, but I think outlaw Billy The Bad is supposed to be Edmund, the illegitimate son of Gloucester.
In this county and western version of one of Shakespeare’s most famous tragedies, which daughter will get Lee’s land in Cactus Valley – and will our outlaw shake off the law? If you know Shakespeare, you know blindness and death is coming, but you don’t know Shakespeare like this…
