Colored: The Unsung Life Of Claudette Colvin
October 1 @ 16:00 - November 3 @ 20:00
£10.00The latest virtual reality installation in the Wales Millennium Centre’s BOCS series, {Colored} is based on a 2014 essay by Tania de Montaigne, later remade as a graphic biography, and itself based on the defiant, epochal and largely unheralded story of Claudette Colvin. A 15-year-old Black girl in Montgomery, Alabama, Colvin was arrested in March 1955 after refusing to forego her bus seat for a white passenger – in defiance of the segregationist laws of the time – causing minor ripples in the local community. Yet it would be Rosa Parks, a mentor of sorts to Colvin, who would emulate the teenager’s actions nine months later, creating a worldwide impact and becoming an avatar for civil rights.
