April 5 @ 19:30 21:30

Michelle Collins, Etisyai Phillips, Tom Babbage, Judith Amsenga and Daniel Casey in Cluedo - credit Craig Sugden

Given the inherent difficulties of spinning a substantial enough story out of something with almost none, you might be wondering why Cluedo is something you need to see on stage as opposed to playing around the kitchen table at Christmas when there’s nothing else left to do. As it stands, the blueprint for this production, which is coming to Cardiff’s New Theatre for one week this April, already exists: the 1985 film of the same name (well, Clue in American) starring Tim Curry, well-regarded as a camp classic – the Knives Out of whodunnits 35 odd years ago – so a transition from screen to stage was both inevitable and intriguing.

In Cluedo, Miss Scarlett, Professor Plum, Mrs Peacock, Reverend Green, Mrs. White and Colonel Mustard are summoned to a secluded mansion one dark and stormy night by Lord Boddy. One by one, it’s revealed they all have a secret to hide and as each is killed off, all they can do is wonder whose secret is worth murdering over, and why they’re there in the first place.

Joining the production in Cardiff in the role of Miss Scarlett is soap actress Michelle Collins of Coronation Street, Eastenders and 2000 Acres of Sky fame. Cluedo will visit theatres across the UK until the end of July. Here, it’s on at 2.30pm and 7.30pm on Thurs 7 Apr and Sat 9 Apr; tickets are £20-£37 from Mon 4-Thurs 7 Apr (evenings); £16-£31 on Thurs 7 Apr (matinee); £24-£41 on Fri 8 and Sat 9 Apr.
