An event which offers the public the chance to hear the next generation of Welsh opera stars, the Welsh Singers Competition is approaching its final this May. Five young, Welsh, opera singers will be competing against each other to be crowned as the winner, and not only will they win a substantial cash prize, but they will also have the chance to represent Wales in BBC Cardiff Singer of the World 2017. Competing in this year’s final are; mezzo sopranos Eirlys Myfanwy Davies and Sioned Gwen Davies, countertenor Kieron-Connor Valentine and tenors Samuel Furness and Trystan Llyr Griffiths. The finalists will be performing before a panel of five judges and will be accompanied by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. This event is promoted by the charity, Live Music Now, which gives musicians the opportunity to perform to a range of audiences unable to attend concerts.
