Ceri Richards Gallery, Swansea
Fri 13 May-Sun 18 Jun
Established in 1948 to ‘give a voice’ to the artists of Wales, the Welsh Group exhibit and share the work of upcoming and renowned Welsh artists, nationally and internationally.
Originally based in South Wales, the group has expanded and now boasts 42 talented artists from across Wales. This exhibition encompasses work from all across Wales and will allow you to discover something unique.
Artists include Sue Roberts, whose figurative sculptures focus on the female form; Thomasin Toohie’s three dimensional work is inspired by Paris, Venice and 1960s comic books.
Jean Walcot mixes both digital and traditional art forms. Inspired by her own physicality, her latest work is focused on duplicating and distorting images of feet. The smaller works uses heated wax on watercolour paper implies movement within the painting.
Alan Sailsbury’s style is both recognisable yet unfamiliar. He uses a trompe l’oeil technique, taking realistic imagery to create the optical illusion. Inspired by historical sources from European paintings, he takes their ideas and applies post-modern humour and irony. By taking art from the past and adding elements familiar to modern audiences his art creates a diverse story.
The exhibition allows the viewer to discover local works of art that take a different perspective inspired by the land of our fathers.
