WARMDUSCHER
Too Cold To Hold (Strap Originals)
Warmduscher never miss a beat when it comes to originality, and fifth album Too Cold To Hold takes no prisoners with its intoxicating display of genre-bending done well. Commencing the chaos, Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh is the first example of this album’s wealthy lineup of features. Welsh describes a freakish DMT trip with a stoic Scottish inflection before the track slowly melts into next track Fashion Week.
Body Shock poses Clams Baker Jr.’s distinct drone of narcotic babbling against afro-beat groove and Lianne La Havas’ brooding vocals. Clams’ lyrical ramblings obscure further on the jazzy jauntiness that is Immaculate Deception – reminiscent of the sordid vocals of Viagra Boys frontman Sebastian Murphy. The pace jumps to match the flow of East London MC Jeshi – an unexpected but welcomed turn on this record.
Too Cold To Hold marks a symbolic line in the sand for the London group: by refining their sonic clutter, Warmduscher have created something discernibly brilliant.
