TUCKER ZIMMERMAN
Dance Of Love (4AD)
Before producing the likes of David Bowie and T-Rex, Tony Visconti hooked up with San Franciscan-born singer-songwriter Tucker Zimmerman and produced his folk-flavoured 1968 debut album Ten Songs. Although Zimmerman, now 83, has remained creative pretty much since, Dance Of Love should spark a career renaissance for him akin to Sixto ‘Sugarman’ Rodriguez in his later years – or even Johnny Cash with his American recordings.
Adrianne Lenker of Big Thief has worked with Zimmerman on lo-fi cinematic folk beauty Dance Of Love, and their harmonies gel together amazingly well. There is a real emotional authenticity throughout, with tracks such as Nobody Knows and Burial At Sea being the cornerstone of an engaging listening experience. Don’t Go Crazy (Go In Peace) resonates especially strongly today; Dance Of Love feels like a timeless classic in the making from Zimmerman.
