Dylan Thomas Theatre, Swansea
Sun 11 Nov
This poignant and inventive show from dynamic Welsh theatre-makers Theatr na nÓg is getting a revival this month to commemorate the centenary of the end of the First World War. Written by My Family star (and Buzz’s film critic) Keiron Self and directed by Daniel Lloyd, The White Feather follows the plight of a young boy who dreams of escaping his humdrum home life in Swansea. As the war rages around him, he thinks that becoming a soldier could give his life the excitement and the purpose that it needs. But once he has a bitter taste of life on the battlefield, he comes to realise that war is no Boy’s Own adventure. Blending the timeless words of war poets with Welsh folk music, The White Feather is a show suitable for adults and children alike, giving audiences an insight into the harsh realities of war through a heartfelt human drama of love, loss and family.
Theatr na nÓg are one of Wales’ leading theatre companies, founded over 30 years ago to meet the needs of the West Glamorgan community. From 2013’s You Should Ask Wallace to 2015’s Rosie’s War, their work is always innovative, inspired and educational. For this particular show, there are several opportunities for primary and secondary schools to enjoy the performance.
