THE SCRIPT
Satellites (BMG)
Cogent storytelling has always been part of The Script’s repertoire, but new album Satellites carries greater poignancy given the death of band member Mark Sheehan in 2023.
The band’s signature pop-rock sound is enriched with cathartic ballads. Gone stands out: its upbeat tempo carries a deeply emotional message, a lament that “the world ain’t the same since you left it” a clear tribute to Sheehan from frontman Danny O’Donoghue. Similarly, Inside Out reflects on the past: “I liked the world the way it was / I wish it stayed the same.”
Satellites’ instrumentation often affects a vibrant, acoustic-heavy style. Both Ways brings a burst of energy with its lively, zestful summer vibe – an unexpected turn for The Script – with hummable “ooh ooh ooh” backing vocals complementing the melodic chorus. The Script’s biggest hit is The Man Who Can’t Be Moved and one can’t help but be moved by the lyrics on this album.
