Welsh theatre company Leeway Productions are bringing Jason Robert Brown’s off-Broadway hit musical The Last Five Years to Wales. It follows a young New York couple, Jamie and Cathay, and their relationship over a time span of five years. This musical also features dancers that will accompany the two actors throughout the piece.
Under the tutelage of Artistic Director Angharad Lee, (Spring Awakening, Sweeney Todd) and choreographer Mark Smith, this piece provides a compelling musical for all audience members. A unique aspect of The Last Five Years is its accessibility for D/deaf, deafened and hard-of-hearing audience members; every performance has closed captions and sign language integrated into the performance.
Knowing the other works of Jason Robert-Brown, with such great pieces as Songs For A New World and Parade behind him, this musical promises to be heartfelt, compelling and touching, and will debut in Cardiff Bay’s Wales Millennium Centre from Fri 9-Sat 17 Nov before visiting Aberystwyth Arts Centre (Tue 20); Blackwood Miners Insitute (Tue 27 and Wed 28), Y Ffwrnes, Llanelli (Thurs 29) and Theatr Soar, Merthyr Tydfil (Fri 30 and Sat 1 Dec).
