THE JUNKET CLUB BIRTHDAY CHRISTMAS SHOWDOWN
An artist’s studio in Barry, Sun 12 Dec
words: Rebecca Brynolf
I have fond memories of the first Junket Club. In an artist’s studio in Barry, fans of comedy, Christmas and generally having a jolly nice time got together and did just that. We all curled up next to the Christmas tree while Mike Bubbins warmed us up with stand-up and the best gifts charity shops could provide, before everyone clambered into the studio upstairs with a slightly bemused Tom Wrigglesworth (it must have been odd performing to a small room full of people sat cross legged on the floor, crafting their own versions of the Nativity).
With each Junket Club I’ve been to, be it making up Norway-based puns in The Norwegian Church with Isy Suttie, Maeve Higgins and Josie Long, or being given a tour of the National Museum Cardiff by Elis James and Lloyd Woolf, I’ve always come away thinking the same thing; “How well and truly lovely”. It’s sort of what organisers Ben Partridge and Lisa Heledd Jones specialise in; loveliness, and it’s what’s made Junket Club tickets (handmade and sent to you inthe post) much sought after.
The Birthday Christmas Showdown promises a winter BBQ, bingo, crafts, comedy (of course) and more. If you haven’t already entered the draw for the limited tickets, chances are you’ve missed out, so make sure you keep an eye out for announcements and enter early next year.
