After opening its doors in April 2017 following a refurbishment, the property formally known as Bishop’s Meadows Restaurant began its new life as Hills: a modern burger bar that boasts of serving the best burger in Wales. We headed across to check out these bold claims, and were not disappointed.
Based in the Brecon countryside, Hills finds itself aptly named with its stunning views of the Brecon Beacons and surrounding landscape. Planning a walk up the famous Pen-Y-fan mountain? Then Hills is the perfect way to refuel after a long day exploring. But, to the important part: how was the food? Offering a comprehensive menu that includes 10 different classics, monthly specials and vegetarian burgers, as well as hot dogs, steaks, and a variety of sides, customers of the restaurant will certainly be spoilt for choice when they arrive.
After much deliberation, I went for the bacon double cheeseburger at £14 – which, to my surprise, emerged as a quadruple cheeseburger, all burgers coming with two patties as standard. With pink, coarse ground patties, and succulent bacon and cheese, this juicy delight definitely lived up to expectations. Washed down with a pint of Blue Moon lager, and a bowl of crispy sweet potato fries, you can call this burger heaven.
With that said, it’s no wonder Hills has already gained critical acclaim, becoming a finalist in the 2018 national burger awards, and causing a stir amongst the local community. Hills restaurant is great place to eat with family or friends, and not to be missed for burger lovers. LEWIS SMITH
