THE HEDGEHOG BOOK | BOOK REVIEW
Hugh Warwick (Graffeg)
Anyone in need of a quick fix of beautiful beasts should grab a Graffeg nature book. The books are an ongoing series in which different animals are celebrated within each publication, with wise words and beautiful images. Just enough to distract the reader from whatever human-sanctioned catastrophe is taking place nearby and to appreciate the soothing beauty of nature.
The owl and fox books are real beauties in the series and now we have something dedicated to hedgehogs. Ecologist and writer Hugh Warwick is a spokesperson for the British Hedgehog Preservation Society, so there could hardly be a better person to put pen to paper regarding these creatures.
Warwick recognises the threat that Mrs Tiggy-Winkle and her offspring face within the environment. Gardens will not be the same if hedgehog numbers are allowed to diminish further. Mixing engaging and enlightening facts with some nice images, after reading The Hedgehog Book it’s impossible not to want to leave some water outside the back door for our prickly garden guests and to also cover their backs.
