Ian Gittins (Palazzo Editions)
This very substantial coffee table book traces the trajectory of The Cure, one of the UK’s most influential bands. The book chronologically follows the band from founding members Robert Smith and Laurence Andrew ‘Lol’ Tolhurst meeting at school in 1964 to their heady heights of fame in sold-out stadiums. There’s loads of interesting information in the book about the band and Robert Smith’s relationship with rotating band members that even an obsessed fan like myself didn’t know. There are also detailed breakdowns of all the bands discography as well as production details that give you an insight into the recording of each record. The strongest aspect is the design, with amazing pictures and album art dotted throughout the book.
