THE AMAZONS | ALBUM REVIEW
Future Dust (Fiction)
After a smashing two years, a sold-out UK tour and making their way onto almost every reputable ‘hotly tipped’ and ‘ones to watch’ list, Reading rockers The Amazons have returned with their second album. Back with a heavier, bluesier sound, they’ve definitely not fallen ill to second album syndrome fate, in fact managing to establish their sound and ensure they are no passing fad.
Lead singer Matt Thomson has explained how the band delved back through rock history to find inspiration in Led Zeppelin’s back catalogue and the biblical language of Jerry Lee Lewis’ lyrics. Lead single Doubt It is more in keeping with the style of their previous material, whereas the slow-building riff-stomping Mother is a more mature and complex singalong anthem just waiting to be chorused in the fields of this summer’s hottest festivals.
The Amazons have somehow managed to combine some dark themes with annoyingly catchy melodies and headbanging riffs, and make it all look effortlessly cool.
